A feeling of surprise and admiration, caused by something awe-inspiring, beautiful, unexpected, amazing or strange

May 20, 2020: Walking in Temescal Canyon, I found a shrub covered with fried eggs: big flowers with pure white petals and a golden center, glowing in the sun. It was a Coulter’s Matilija poppy – the “fried egg poppy.” Beautiful, unexpected… wonderful.

Who doesn’t enjoy the feeling of wonder? It comes naturally to us as children; but years pass, and we yield to boredom and routine. Maintaining your sense of wonder takes effort, but that effort is richly rewarded! Wonder inspires; wonder augments happiness; wonder is contagious to those around you.
