Freedom from arrogance, self-importance, or undue pride

Each time I’ve been hospitalized, the nurses ask, “Do you prefer to be called doctor?” I always reply with a smile, “Feel free to call me Scott.” I don’t need to stand on ceremony. It’s called humility.

I’m not saying all pride is bad. Accept credit where credit is due for your achievements; humility doesn’t mean false modesty. Just don’t cross the line into braggadocio. If you’re that great, others will notice. Let them do the bragging for you.

The less people speak of their greatness, the more we think of it. (Francis Bacon)
