Truthfulness and uprightness in words and actions
In the operating room, many years ago: a momentary slip of the hand… and the scissors struck the underlying nerve. Did it affect the outcome? I’ll never know; the patient died of unrelated causes during the healing period. What I do know is: the moment I left the operating room, I called the client and told them. It was the only honest choice.
Why be honest? Doesn’t treachery pay? Yes… but only if it remains hidden. And does anything stay secret in today’s goldfish bowl of social media? You might benefit once, but when you’re discovered, who would ever trust you again? Would you willingly work with someone of proven dishonesty? Me neither.
Never do or say anything you wouldn’t want to see on a billboard above your office. (Larry Lippincott)
