a physical or mental deed done to achieve a purpose or solve a problem

Done. Not just planned, considered, contemplated: done. A cabin built beats a castle dreamt of.

And done for a purpose, a reason. Action is a step towards a specific objective. Pointless activity doesn’t cut it:

Never confuse motion with action. (Benjamin Franklin).

2014: I’d promised my wife and sons I’d always protect them. Couldn’t let those be empty words; so, in the nine days between my diagnosis and the date of surgery, I acted. Hours and days drafting 16 pages of instructions, assembling files and documents… everything they would need in the event of my death. Unpleasant to contemplate; but it had to be done.

Thought alone is not enough, and talk is cheap. You doubtless know people who are all talk and no action.  Let others talk. You act.
