Accepting what is real and possible in a situation, and dealing with it in a practical, nondogmatic way

Years ago, I ran marathons. Always wanted to do so again, but can’t at the moment. My lungs aren’t up to the task. So, set it aside for now. Exercise, let time pass, heal, do easy-paced day hikes instead… be a realist.

Realists don’t delude themselves.

Reality is. If it’s raining, no amount of positivity, dreams, vision or idealism will make it stop. By all means smile, dream of sun, envision umbrellas for all… but it’s still raining. Accepting reality is the first step toward dealing effectively with it – or changing it. That’s realism.
