Leniency, compassion or forgiveness towards offenders, enemies, or persons under your authority
Locke called mercy an act of discretion for the public good. Consider the collateral damage strict justice may cause: the human cost, the innocent bystanders affected… yes, I know, the offender should have thought about those first. But that doesn’t absolve you. Justice, yes… but choose to temper it with mercy.
In so doing, you’re setting an example, sending a message – which someday could even circle back to you.
